    The Mineralogical Sciences at IU are encouraging applications from prospective graduate students to participate in funded research projects that may offer fee remission and employment as research assistants. Quick Guide to Research Areas

    IU Department of Geological Sciences students have received extramural research funding from the following agencies and industrial partners:

    • National Science Foundation (NSF)
    • Petroleum Research Fund (PRF)
    • Department of Energy (DOE)
    • Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
    • National Aeronautic and Space Administration (NASA)
    • U.S. Geological Survey (USGS)
    • North Atlantic Treaty Organizaton (NATO)
    • Various industrial collaborators, for example Shell Inc. (Houston, TX) and Petrobras (Brazil).

    In addition, the competitive Grassmann Fellowship is open to Doctoral-level candidates in the general area of clay mineralogy and carries a tuition waiver plus an award of up to $24,000 for 12 months, renewable on a yearly basis for up to 3 years. The Fellowship also includes a budget for research and travel expenses.
