DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS IS DECEMBER 1, 2018
We actively solicit applications from international students for admission into the graduate program in Geological Sciences. We strongly encourage prospective students to correspond with faculty members in their field of interest. Contact with prospective research advisors significantly enhances opportunities for admission and financial support.
International students should submit original applications to the IU International Admissions Office, but are also urged to send copies of their application and supporting materials directly to the Department.
On-line applications are also accepted. Following preliminary examination of these documents, the Department, on request, may waive the application fees required by the IU International Admissions Office.
All applicants are required to take the general GRE examination and demonstrate English proficiency in the TOEFL examination. If the graduate applicant’s native language is not English, the College requires a score of at least 79 on the TOEFL iBT (delivered via the internet). Please note that the paper-based TOEFL ITP exam – sometimes called the institutional TOEFL – offered by the Intensive English Program on the Bloomington campus, cannot be used in place of the TOEFL iBT. Alternatively, an international applicant may submit the result of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) examination in lieu of the TOEFL iBT. The College requires a score of at least 6.5 on the IELTS for graduate admission.
