This course covers the conceptual foundations of data assimilation techniques for applications in atmospheric and oceanic modeling. Main topics include numerical methods for partial differential equations, modern data assimilation techniques and practical implementation, and physical parameterizations. Particular effort will be made to provide hands-on experiences with real DA with weather forecasting models on the high-performance supercomputing environment.
