How to Apply

Apply to our graduate program

You will need to complete the online application to Indiana University.

Due to recent state laws regarding degree requirements, the application system will appear to only allow submissions to our Ph.D. program in Geological Sciences.  If you are interested in getting a Masters Degree from our department, please email the Director of Graduate Studies (easdgs@iu.edu), who can discuss options and guide you through the process.  As a reminder, regardless of which degree you wish to pursue, it is highly advisable to contact potential advisors ahead of time to discuss research interests and potential projects.

Domestic Student Documents

Domestic Students should arrange for official copies of their academic transcript to be sent to the EAS department.

They may do this in one of two ways.

  1. They can send physical copies to the address below:

  2. They may have an official electronic version sent via email to geolgrad@iu.edu

International Student Documents:

You must also arrange for the following documents to be sent directly to the Office of International Services:

  1. official transcripts
  2. official ETS record of TOEFL score (only for International students for whom English is not their native language). English scores must be taken within 2 years of application in order to be considered for admission
  3. we will also accept IELTS scores for graduate admission. Minimum score is 6.5

You must send official transcripts and TOEFL documents even if you upload unofficial copies in the online application.

The ETS code (TOEFL scores) is 1324 for Indiana University. This should be sent to:

All potential applicants are encouraged to contact members of the faculty within their area of interest to initiate a dialogue about research opportunities. This process helps to create a faculty advocate for the applicant and provides a focus for interactions during a visit.
