Quoting IU News: "IU earth scientist’s research into rivers and flooding earns him prestigious Guggenheim Fellowship
Douglas Edmonds, an earth scientist at Indiana University Bloomington whose research on sediment, rivers and flooding offers practical applications for soil conservation, has received a prestigious fellowship from the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation for 2025.
A current project for Edmonds is studying the flood plain along the White River near Columbus, Indiana. He mobilized his research team to the area hours before a 50-year flood hit the East Fork White River and much of the Midwest on April 2. “When we realized just how big this flood was going to be, I sent a team of undergraduates out,” Edmonds said. “We wanted to place sensors in the floodplain to record the progression of the flood wave. These data help us understand how and why floodplains change during big floods.”"
