Julia Kelson received an early-career award from GSA
Quoting IU News: "Julia Kelson, Assistant Professor of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences (EAS) in the College of Arts and Sciences at Indiana University Bloomington, is the recipient of the Geological Society of America Young Scientist Award. Known as the Donath Medal, the award is given annually to an early-career scientist who has made an outstanding and original contribution that significantly advances the field.
Kelson has earned the Donath Medal in recognition of her research on, paleoclimate, carbon cycling, and stable isotope geochemistry, areas of study that help scientists learn how Earth’s climate has changed over millions of years.
Paleoclimate refers to how scientists learn about ancient, past climates; carbon cycling is the process of how carbon atoms continually move between the air, the land, and living things; and stable isotopes are akin to tiny chemical fingerprints in rocks, soils, or minerals that tell scientists about what the Earth’s temperatures were like from pre-history."
