EAS Professor Chen Zhu has been honored by the International Association of Geochemistry for his “pioneering work in water-mineral interactions, thermodynamics, and environmental geochemistry, along with service to the community through educational outreach and leadership."
From the IAGC website: "The honorary title of IAGC Fellow is bestowed annually to scientists who have made significant contributions to the field of geochemistry. Geochemists practicing in all facets of the subject are eligible for this award, but particular emphasis should be on the applied geochemistry. Due consideration to a fair and equitable geographic distribution is given by the Committee in the selection of IAGC Fellows. This award consists of a framed certificate, and the recipients will be profiled on the Association website and in the IAGC Newsletter. Award recipients will also receive a complementary 1-year membership to IAGC for the year following receipt of the award. The recipients of the Vernadsky Medal and Ebelmen Award automatically become Fellows."
What is the IAGC?
"The IAGC has been one of the preeminent international geochemistry organizations since 1967. We foster cooperation and advancement in geochemistry in the broadest sense. Our membership is international in scope, but our smaller sized geochemistry conferences are designed to be intimate and approachable. Our popular long-running thematic working group meetings include Water-Rock Interaction (WRI), Applied Isotope Geochemistry (AIG), and the Geochemistry of the Earth's Surface (GES).
It is our mission to financially support geochemical analysis for PhD Students (Student Research Grant Program), highlight the work of early career scientists (Emerging Investigator Series, Ebelmen Award) and scientists from low- and middle-income countries (Kharaka Award), and recognize senior scientists for their service the field and their scientific contributions to the field (Vernadsky medal, Fellows)."
