Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences

This multidisciplinary graduate seminar brings together faculty and students from
a broad range of disciplines to discuss research on active processes of crustal
evolution and deformation. This semester's seminar will focus on: tectonics of the IU Geologic Field Station region.

Possible topics to include:
• Tectonic setting of southwestern Montana
• Tectonics of the Laramide Orogeny and Basin and Range provinces
• Dynamics of the Yellowstone hotspot
• Stratigraphy of Laramide and extensional basins
• Geophysical constraints on crust and mantle structure
• Geodetic and seismological observations of present-day deformation
• Geodynamic models for deformation and evolution
• Geomorphology, thermochronology and crustal exhumation
• Environmental geology and hydrology
