Course Description

In this course, students will learn the basic principles of the geophysical fluid dynamics at a wide range of spatial and temporal scales, which govern the Earth's weather and climate system. The course will cover 1) physical laws behind the motion in the Earth atmosphere, 2) general formation of the primitive system of equations governing the motion of the atmosphere, and 3) common approximations for typical atmospheric flow regimes. Particular focus will be on understanding the physics of the atmospheric motion, and their potential practical applications to studies of the dynamics and modeling of the atmospheric weather and climate.
