In 2021, led by Graduate Student Josie Arcuri, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences formed an URGE pod to study how to help diversify the Geosciences.
Participants from EAS engaged in eight two-week units that incorporated readings, interviews with experts, and discussions focused on learning about and implementing efficient anti-racist strategies. Topics included Policy for Dealing with Complaints, Statistical Analyses of the Program and Its History, Policies for Working with Communities of Color, Lab and Field Code of Conduct, and Admission and Hiring Policies, among other subjects.
